How To Fill Out The Application
Firstly, the form asks you to provide your basic personal such as your name, home address, e-mail, and phone number. They also ask which position you are applying for. Before you write in your position consider which jobs you qualify for based on your experience and education level. If this is your first job or you have little experience, you should choose an entry level position such as “store associate”. If you have supervisor or manager experience feel free to apply for a higher level position.
Tip: When filling out the Hot Topic application or any other application always use either a black or blue pen when filling it out. Never use pencil.
The next part of the form goes on to ask a series of questioned meant to determine your eligibility to work with the store. These questions include: “Are you eligible to work in the United States”, and “Have you been convicted of a felony in the last 7 years”. In answering these questions its important to be honest. Embellishing your information could lead to termination. Also note a felony on your record does not automatically disqualify you for employment. Each case is considered on its own merits.
Next you will be asked to provide your schedule availability. Here you fill in what hours you’re available to work each day of the week. You will also need to specify if you’re applying to become a full time, part time, or seasonal worker.
Tip: Having an open schedule will improve your chances of employment.
The form then goes on to ask your education level. Be sure to be honest with your answer as management will call to confirm your answer. Simply write in the highest grade you completed and whether or not you have any degrees or diplomas.
You will then need to provide your work history. The Hot Topic application provides spaces for up to four past job listings. Note that it is not required for you to have worked at four previous jobs. However having extensive experience with other retail stores will increase your chances of being hired.
Lastly, you will need to fill in two personal references. When choosing references its important to avoid listing family members and friends. Always use professional references such as past employers or coworkers. If you do not have a previous employer to list, consider listing a teacher or guidance counselor who is willing to put in a good word for you.
That’s it, you’re done. Now all you have to do is sign and date the bottom and turn it in to a manager at your local store location.
